A look at how memory is diminishing , false memory syndrome and the way that history is being rewritten, misrepresented and destroyed. The memory is able to remember and recall everything, however and the show also looks at how this works.
The Mandala effect I always like is the Bible verse "and the lion shall lie down with the lamb" claimed to be the original text when it is actually 'the wolf and the lamb.' Mandela adherents, to be kind, say that the effect actually has changed reality such that all Bibles now read the 'wolf and the lamb'. Again misquotes taken as the reality backed by the unproveable. The mind is fallable and full of tricks or why some people can become certifably insane.
Brilliant subject, Mark. Thank you. On a side note, my memory when I was in my twenties at Uni was almost photographic, I could memorise a pack of cards quite well, although it took great effort, repetition and attention. Then I started drinking and eating crap, as you do! My memory was becoming distinctly poor a few years ago and I put it down to old age. However, I gave up refined sugar four years ago (I went cold turkey) and my memory improved (I estimate) 80% to what it was thirty years ago. I have gone back to some sugar (red wine, occasional puddings etc.) but the memory/sugar relationship thing was really exceptional and real. I would like to hear other similar experiences. Cheers. Please let us know more about Bulgaria.
I like it when a simple photo (say from the silver jubilee party 1977) can bring back genuine memories from the moment. I was seven and can remember vividly what I was eating and doing in some moments of that day. That is real.
Time seems to be speeding up because we are old, my nine year old son thinks the day is endless and gets bored. My 70 year old parents can't believe where the day goes. It is relative. Memory is a fascinating subject though, morphic resonance perhaps?
