Today, we talk about our number one fear for our children. This, essentially, is the loss of personal values and individuality that comes through conformity. We discuss how social media exacerbates the problem, pressuring people to think a certain way and discouraging nonconformity. We talk about the dangers of censorship and the value of freedom to share and debate ideas. We share the things we are doing to help our kids feel comfortable with their own opinions, such as promoting free conversation at the dinner table, and helping them explore their own strengths in their education. We discuss evidence in history of how free and innovative thought led to great advances in society, and how the repression of these things has led and will continue to lead to stagnation in progress. We share that our aspiration for our kids is that they grow up to be leaders, who are anchored in their own beliefs and values and who foster the free expression and sharing of ideas without shaming and contention.

“Our number 1 fear is that our children will be so focused on being popular that they won’t contribute or have their own ideas, or that society will get to a point where -- it already is nearly there -- where its unsafe to have a different opinion or a different idea than what everyone else has.” 0:58
