Today, we talk about the key things Rosie does for labour. We talk about eating gummy bears for a quick, easy to digest burst of energy, as well as diffusing essential oils and applying them to the body. We discuss other things that aid the birth, such as walking around, and listening to music on a portable speaker. She says that she wishes she had the music up a little louder, and that she hadn’t confused her breathing techniques. She used one technique for contractions, and used the “J breathing” technique for the transition when you have to deal with pushing pain. We discuss each of these breathing techniques more in-depth. We talk about the importance for partners educating themselves with the mother so that they can support and provide positive reinforcement and guidance for your breathing. We talk about massaging your lower back against your contractions to reduce pain. We suggest using doTERRA Deep Blue Rub to reduce pain as well. We then discuss birth positions, and compare this most recent birth and her other water birth. We emphasize that you get into a position that best suits you and your baby. We talk more about the role of the partner helping the person in birth feel empowered, as well as how having other kids present can help as well. We then give tips for post-birth. We advise that you not commit to too much and keep your plans open because each day will be different after birth. We talk about Rosie’s ordered bed rest because of a slight tear, and how she put together a kit for those days with everything she needed, right next to the bed. We talk about sleep schedules after birth, as well as allowing yourself to heal after birth. We discuss how the birth brought the family closer together.

“When I would sit on the Swiss ball, my contractions went further apart. When I would stand up and walk around, they would get closer together and they would get stronger. It should be a crime that you have to lie in a bed when you’ve been to a hospital.” 2:30
