First, some must see video from Quaker Oats . Today a victory in the food aisle, but the reason it took so long is the reason for all the protests. We have been sitting by while racism flourishes everywhere and doing nothing for so long…because none of this is new! Plus, is racism new? That’s the reason for the protests! Everyone is acting like superiority of White, Straight Men hasn’t crept in to every single area of life, but it has; for gays, for women, for Blacks, Hispanics, Asians, this is nothing new. Just look around. Stereotypes are everywhere on logos, in advertising. And why? Why are they so prevalent? Because we let them be, you and I. Because we haven’t done anything about it. I mean, who is Uncle Ben, anyway? What corporate logos are steeped in hatred, racism, war? And we just accept them. Or did.
But will the momentum from this be enough? Is there a national salary discussion still happening, because that’s about power, about race? Are there true conversations in Hollywood about how it presents White Straight Men, How it portrays cops and saints even bad ones…is this really going to lead to a cultural shift?
