Welcome to Day 785 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.
This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom
Yesterday I Was Clever – Wisdom Unplugged

Thank you for joining us for our five days per week, wisdom and legacy building podcast. This is day 785 of our trek, and it is time for a 3-minute mini-trek called Wisdom Unplugged.  This short nugget of wisdom includes an inspirational quote with a little bit of additional content for today’s trek.  Consider this your vitamin supplement of wisdom for today.  So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:

Today’s quote is from Rumi and it is: Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.
Yesterday I Was Clever
When we are young and starting out our adult lives, we think we know everything.  We have an opinion about nearly every subject and are dogmatic in expressing that opinion.  We see ourselves as clever and with the ability to influence and persuade masses of people to the point where we can truly change the world.

As we age and mature, we should also be gaining and growing in wisdom.  If we become wise, then we will realize that it is nearly impossible to change others, for change is internal.   We realize that the only way that we can impact others is by changing ourselves.   As we age and mature, we also realize that life is short.  We realize that we need to maximize each day and impact others through a life of integrity.  In other words, to be both good and Godly.  Psalm 90:12 reinforces this when it says: Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.  We are also taught how very valuable wisdom and understanding are in Proverbs 3:13-14

Joyful is the person who finds wisdom,
the one who gains understanding.
For wisdom is more profitable than silver,
and her wages are better than gold.

That’s a wrap for today’s Wisdom Unplugged quote.
