Bringing Something Different To Creativity & Production Feat. Evan Martin

In this episode Durell is joined by music producer, artist, MC, international communicator and entrepreneur Evan Martin. Evan and Durell begin the episode talking about them coming together early on in both of their journeys in pursuing a career in music and the creative ecosystem and marketplace. Durell and Evan talk about the experiences they had working together with each other as well as the artists they worked with. Evan shares that even though the music journey with the artists may not have worked and gone accordingly, the experiences were ones that they learned from and kept them going all the way to what they have going on today. Durell shares that one of the things that he loved about working with Evan is the way he approached music. He says that Evan always wanted to be different and that was something in which you don’t see much of today.

Durell and Evan talk about this is the best time to be an artist because of the opportunities to do things your own way and embrace being different. Durell shares that the days are over where a record label is coming to save you and now it's about doing the work to take yourself from zero to sixty in your music career. Evan shares that for him producing music was about getting it as close to perfection as possible. Evan shares that he was proud to work with their early crew because he saw the talent that was there that ultimately led to making good music. Evan shares that even though his journey has taken a pivot into producing virtual and hybrid events, he really sees it as him taking the same exact approach as he did with producing music.

Durell and Evan talk about the fact that they both have New York roots. Evan shares that he was born in Queens and raised in Boston. He shares he moved to South Florida in 1999 and then moved to Orlando to attend the University of Central Florida. Durell shares how much great talent has emerged from the city of Orlando and that the music community has grown so much with great talent and opportunities for growth. Evan and Durell talk about luck playing a part in success and even if someone does earn a lot of money without experience of having to go through difficult times and navigate through them it actually makes them better in life.

Durell and Evan talk about the importance of branding and the ability to create quality content in the day where it’s really easy to just put out average things into the marketplace and the internet because everyone has access to technology today. Durell shares why he teaches the element of creating a solid brand positioning statement for creatives because in order to be successful in today’s marketplace, knowing and being able to explain to someone why they should care about what they are doing is crucial. Durell asks Evan about his earliest memories of music and he shares that he has to thank his dad for having a great record collection and exposing him to great music of the 1960’s & 1970’s. Durell asked Evan if he taught himself how to record music and he shared that in high school he took it upon himself to use whatever tools and resources he had to make the music he was doing sound as professional as possible.

Durell and Evan end the episode talking about him viewing himself as an international communicator. He shares that the best way to grow in life is getting the best you can out of people and what you can do to provide the best work you can for others. Durell asks Evan about the work he does with his company and why he decided to focus on hybrid virtual and in-person event production. He shares that he’s always been operating in the music and production world for a very long time. He shares that during the pandemic when the world was shut down and the only option was to create and do things in a virtual setting he was approached to do a training session with the Hilton corporation that was received in an amazing way that led to many more opportunities. He shares that he’s able to now create and help produce amazing events right from his own production studio. He shares that because of his work at the Hilton corporation he was able to grow and network to be able to run his company full time while working with some amazing business professionals and corporations.

Durell and Evan talk about his work with some of the world's biggest global and international brands such as Redbull, MTV, and The Learning Channel. Evan shares that one of the biggest keys to success in working with large corporations is to meet and listen so that you can see where their needs lie to be able to provide the answer to the problem they need you to solve. Durell and Evan talk about his love for Boston sports and a special interview he did with former Boston Celtic and University of Central Florida alumni graduate Tacko Fall.
