Today in Orthodoxy we commemorate Saint Basil the Great who is known as one of the Cappadocian Fathers. Our own Father Micah shares with us an inspiring homily about this great saint of the Church, who was the eldest sibling of an entire family of saints. In a eulogy given by his brother Saint Gregory of Nyssa, Saint Basil is compared to Moses, Elijah, and Saint Paul. One of his contributions to Orthodoxy is his defense at the Second Ecumenical Council that the Holy Spirit is equal to the Father and the Son. He is credited with establishing the first hospital for those who could not afford medical treatment. Saint Basil gives us a clue into his greatness by writing that anyone who wants to follow Christ needs quiet, devotion to reading the Holy Scripture and prayer. Father Micah elaborates on each of these steps to following Christ in this homily.
