Números 24: El espíritu de Balaam.

Números 24:1-13:
Cuando Balaam vio que al SEÑOR le parecía bien que bendijera a Israel, no fue como las otras veces en busca de encantamientos, sino que afirmó su rostro hacia el desierto. Balaam alzó sus ojos y vio a Israel acampado según sus tribus, y el Espíritu de Dios vino sobre él. Entonces pronunció su profecía y dijo: “Dice Balaam hijo de Beor, dice el hombre cuyo ojo es perfecto; dice el que escucha los dichos de Dios, el que ve visión del Todopoderoso, caído, pero con los ojos abiertos: “¡Cuán hermosas son tus tiendas, oh Jacob; tus moradas, oh Israel!
Se extienden como vegas, como huertos junto al río, como áloes plantados por el SEÑOR, como cedros junto a las aguas. El agua correrá de sus baldes; su simiente tendrá agua en abundancia. Su rey será más grande que Agag; su reino será enaltecido. “Dios, que lo ha sacado de Egipto, es para él como los cuernos de un toro salvaje. Devorará a las naciones enemigas; desmenuzará sus huesos y las destrozará con sus flechas. Se agacha y se echa cual león; y como leona, ¿quién lo despertará? ¡Benditos sean los que te bendigan, y malditos los que te maldigan!”.
Entonces se encendió el furor de Balac contra Balaam, y dando palmadas Balac dijo a Balaam: —¡Yo te he llamado para que maldigas a mis enemigos, y he aquí tú los has colmado de bendiciones estas tres veces! ¡Ahora lárgate a tu lugar! Yo dije que te llenaría de honores, pero he aquí el SEÑOR te ha privado de honores.
Y Balaam respondió a Balac: —¿Acaso no hablé yo a tus mensajeros que me enviaste, diciendo: “Aunque Balac me diera su casa llena de plata y de oro, yo no podría transgredir el mandato del SEÑOR, para hacer cosa alguna, buena ni mala, por mi propia voluntad, y que solo lo que el SEÑOR dijera, eso diría yo”?

En este capítulo vemos la tercera y cuarta bendición con la que Balaam se vio obligado por Dios a bendecir a su pueblo, a pesar de que Balac, el rey de Madián, estaba allí presente, ofreciendo 7 sacrificios sobre 7 altares con el intento de maldecir al pueblo.

Balaam era un hombre que conocía la voz de Dios pero a la vez usaba su autoridad espiritual para hacer conjuros por dinero y posición.
Esta vez, Dios usó a un hombre que tenía maldad en su corazón para afirmar por medio de la profecía que Israel era su pueblo y que se levantaría como una nación poderosa.

Aquí vemos varias lecciones: Dios no cambia de parecer cuando de bendecir a sus hijos se trata. Ni las riquezas de Balac ni la avaricia del Balaam pudieron producir maldición.
Ellos pensaron que cambiando de posición en el terreno y ofreciendo sacrificios, Dios cambiaría de parecer y le permitiría a Balaam maldecir al pueblo pero, al final, Dios fue firme con lo que ya había decidido en no permitir que su pueblo fuera maldecido.
También, vemos que no se puede servir a Dios por conveniencia ni tampoco servir a la maldad. Balaam quería usar los dones de Dios para enriquecerse y quería usar el nombre de Dios para enviar maldición, pero Dios es un Dios santo y no le concedió el deseo de su corazón, pues era un deseo malo y egoísta.

Como líderes en nuestro hogar, guardemos nuestro corazón del espíritu de Balaam, que, después de que hayamos conocido la verdad de Dios, no nos desviemos del camino de salvación y no nos dejemos arrastrar por la avaricia, el orgullo y la locura.
Como nos lo advirtió el apóstol Pedro en 2 Pedro 2:14-17: “Tienen los ojos llenos de adulterio y son insaciables para el pecado. Seducen a las almas inconstantes. Tienen el corazón ejercitado para la avaricia. Son hijos de maldición. Abandonando el camino recto se extraviaron al seguir el camino de Balaam hijo de Beor, quien amó el pago de la injusticia y fue reprendido por su iniquidad. ¡Una muda bestia de carga, hablando con voz de hombre, frenó la locura del profeta! Son fuentes sin agua y nubes arrastradas por la tempestad. Para ellos se ha guardado la profunda oscuridad de las tinieblas.”

Numbers 24: The spirit of Balaam.

Numbers 24:1-13:
Now when Balaam saw that it pleased the Lord to bless Israel, he did not go as at other times, to seek to use sorcery, but he set his face toward the wilderness. And Balaam raised his eyes, and saw Israel encamped according to their tribes; and the Spirit of God came upon him.
Then he took up his oracle and said: “The utterance of Balaam the son of Beor, the utterance of the man whose eyes are opened, the utterance of him who hears the words of God, who sees the vision of the Almighty, who falls down, with eyes wide open: “How lovely are your tents, O Jacob! Your dwellings, O Israel!
Like valleys that stretch out, like gardens by the riverside, like aloes planted by the Lord, like cedars beside the waters. He shall pour water from his buckets, and his seed shall be in many waters. “His king shall be higher than Agag, and his kingdom shall be exalted. “God brings him out of Egypt; he has strength like a wild ox; he shall consume the nations, his enemies; he shall break their bones and pierce them with his arrows. ‘He bows down, he lies down as a lion; and as a lion, who shall rouse him?’ “Blessed is he who blesses you, and cursed is he who curses you.”
Then Balak’s anger was aroused against Balaam, and he struck his hands together; and Balak said to Balaam, “I called you to curse my enemies, and look, you have bountifully blessed them these three times! Now therefore, flee to your place. I said I would greatly honor you, but in fact, the Lord has kept you back from honor.”
So Balaam said to Balak, “Did I not also speak to your messengers whom you sent to me, saying, ‘If Balak were to give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not go beyond the word of the Lord, to do good or bad of my own will. What the Lord says, that I must speak’?

In this chapter we see the third and fourth blessing with which Balaam was forced by God to bless His people, despite the fact that Balak, the king of Midian, was there, offering 7 sacrifices on 7 altars with the intention of cursing the people.

Balaam was a man who knew the voice of God but at the same time used his spiritual authority to cast spells for money and position.
This time, God used a man who had evil in his heart to affirm through prophecy that Israel was His people and that they would rise up as a mighty nation.

Here we see several lessons: God does not change His mind when it comes to blessing His children. Neither Balak's riches nor Balaam's greed could produce a curse.
They thought that by changing their position on the ground and offering sacrifices, God would change His mind and allow Balaam to curse the people, but in the end, God was firm with what He had already decided not to allow His people to be cursed.
Also, we see that you cannot serve God out of convenience, nor can you serve evil. Balaam wanted to use God's gifts to enrich himself and he wanted to use God's name to send curses, but God is a holy God and did not grant him the desire of his heart, because it was an evil and selfish desire.

As leaders in our home, let us keep our hearts from the spirit of Balaam, that after we have known the truth of God, we do not deviate from the path of salvation and do not let ourselves be carried away by greed, pride and madness.
As the apostle Peter warned us in 2 Peter 2:14-17: “...having eyes full of adultery and that cannot cease from sin, enticing unstable souls. They have a heart trained in covetous practices, and are accursed children. They have forsaken the right way and gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; but he was rebuked for his iniquity: a dumb donkey speaking with a man’s voice restrained the madness of the prophet. These are wells without water, clouds carried by a tempest, for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.”
