November 27: If you had listened to me I would have blessed you!
Psalms 80:1-7:
Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, You who lead Joseph like a flock; You who dwell between the cherubim, shine forth! Before Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh, stir up Your strength, and come and save us! Restore us, O God; cause Your face to shine, and we shall be saved! O Lord God of hosts, how long will You be angry against the prayer of Your people? You have fed them with the bread of tears, and given them tears to drink in great measure.
You have made us a strife to our neighbors, and our enemies laugh among themselves. Restore us, O God of hosts; cause Your face to shine, and we shall be saved!

Psalms 81:7-16:
You called in trouble, and I delivered you; I answered you in the secret place of thunder; I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Selah
“Hear, O My people, and I will admonish you! O Israel, if you will listen to Me! There shall be no foreign god among you; nor shall you worship any foreign god. I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt; open your mouth wide, and I will fill it. “But My people would not heed My voice, and Israel would have none of Me. So I gave them over to their own stubborn heart, to walk in their own counsels. “Oh, that My people would listen to Me, that Israel would walk in My ways! I would soon subdue their enemies, and turn My hand against their adversaries. The haters of the Lord would pretend submission to Him, but their fate would endure forever. He would have fed them also with the finest of wheat; and with honey from the rock I would have satisfied you.”


These two psalms are very similar because they reflect the condition of Israel in their walk with God. At that time Israel was in a deplorable, sad, disastrous situation. They should be on a high level of faith and blessing, but because of their bad decisions, for turning away from the Lord, they were complaining, asking the Lord to rescue them.
In Psalm 80 we see that cry of an Israelite in pain, desperate for the Lord's help. I hope you can read the whole chapter so you can see the whole context.
Psalm 81 begins with praise and worship to the Lord for His blessings, and then this psalm continues with a statement from the Lord. God Himself is speaking here, expressing that His purpose and intention towards Israel is always to bless them and protect them from enemies, but the problem has been that they have decided to follow their own desires, turning away from the Lord. That is why the Lord says here that He gave them up because of the hardness of their hearts and their own advice. This reminds me of a verse in Proverbs where it says that let's not be wise in our own opinion.
This was precisely what Israel did. After arriving in the promised land and enjoying God's blessings, they forgot Him. As I said about Psalm 78, they were inclined to idolatry and preferred other gods than the God who led them out of Egypt with a mighty hand, miraculously kept them in the desert and gave them a land ready to receive the crops, to live in the houses and to put their animals because they already had built corrals.
That is why I am very moved to hear this psalm because we can directly hear the voice of God expressing His feelings, His frustration and His pain because He had beautiful plans for His people Israel but they decided to forget about God.
I am very impressed by this phrase that the Lord said to them: "Open your mouth wide and I will fill it!" In other words: "Ask me for whatever you want and I'm going to grant it to you." Imagine! That means that God was telling them to come in to eat whatever they wanted like at a buffet or banquet for free and without limits. It's like someone comes up to you and says: "Here's this blank check, just put in the amount you need."
Instead, they did not love the Lord, they rejected Him.
These psalms also illustrate the position of someone, today, who has broken the covenant with God, who has rejected the incredible promises that God gave to Israel but now He is giving them to whoever wants to decide to love, follow and cry out to Him.

If you are faithful to the Lord; then confidently open your mouth for the Lord to fill it. Ask Him and He will give you, call Him and He will attend to you, knock on the door of heaven and He will open you.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. The God of Israel is the same God of the Gentiles; we who were not His people but now we are, He who was not our God but now He is.

Let us consider and share this psalm today with the members of our household and teach them the greatness and might of our God and what a good Father He is to those who are His children, who choose to love Him and listen to His voice.

Noviembre 27: ¡Si me hubieran escuchado los hubiera bendecido!
Salmos 80:1‭-‬7 RVA2015:
"¡Oh Pastor de Israel, escucha, tú que conduces a José como a un rebaño! ¡Tú, que estás entre los querubines, resplandece delante de Efraín, de Benjamín y de Manasés! Despierta tu poderío y ven para salvarnos. Oh Dios, ¡restáuranos! Haz resplandecer tu rostro, y seremos salvos. SEÑOR Dios de los Ejércitos, ¿hasta cuándo has de mostrar tu indignación contra la oración de tu pueblo? Nos has dado a comer pan de lágrimas. Nos has dado a beber lágrimas en abundancia. Nos has puesto por escarnio a nuestros vecinos; nuestros enemigos se mofan de nosotros. Oh Dios de los Ejércitos, ¡restáuranos! Haz resplandecer tu rostro, y seremos salvos."

Salmos 81:7‭-‬16 RVA2015:
"Clamaste en la calamidad, y yo te libré. Te respondí en lo oculto del trueno. Te probé junto a las aguas de Meriba. Selah
“Escucha, oh pueblo mío, y testificaré contra ti. ¡Oh Israel, si me oyeras! No haya dios extraño en medio de ti ni te postres ante dios extranjero. Yo soy el SEÑOR tu Dios, que te hice venir de la tierra de Egipto. Abre bien tu boca, y la llenaré. “Pero mi pueblo no escuchó mi voz; Israel no me quiso a mí. Por eso los entregué a la dureza de su corazón, y caminaron según sus propios consejos. ¡Oh, si mi pueblo me hubiera escuchado; si Israel hubiera andado en mis caminos! En un instante habría yo sometido a sus enemigos y habría vuelto mi mano contra sus adversarios. Los que aborrecen al SEÑOR se le habrían sometido, y su castigo habría sido eterno. Los habría sustentado con la suculencia del trigo; con miel de la roca te habría saciado”.


Estos dos salmos son muy parecidos porque hacen una reflexión de la condición de Israel en su caminar con Dios. En ese momento Israel se encontraba en una situación deplorable, triste, desastrosa. Ellos debían estar en un nivel grande de fe y bendición, pero por causa de sus malas decisiones, por apartarse del Señor, estaban quejándose, pidiendo que el Señor los rescatara.
En el salmo 80 vemos ese clamor de un israelita adolorido, desesperado por el auxilio del Señor. Espero que puedas leer todo el capítulo completo para que mires todo el contexto.
El salmo 81 comienza con una alabanza y adoración al Señor por Sus bendiciones, y después este salmo continúa con una declaración del Señor. Dios mismo está hablando aquí, expresando que Su propósito e intención hacia Israel siempre es de bendecirlo y protegerlo de los enemigos, pero el problema ha sido que ellos han decidido seguir sus propios deseos, alejándose del Señor. Por eso el Señor dice aquí que los entregó por la dureza de sus corazones y sus propios consejos. Esto me recuerda a un verso de Proverbios donde dice que no seamos sabios en nuestra propia opinión.
Esto fue precisamente lo que hizo Israel. Después de haber llegado a la tierra prometida y disfrutado de las bendiciones de Dios se olvidaron de Él. Como lo dije acerca del salmo 78, ellos se inclinaron a la idolatría y prefirieron a otros dioses que al Dios que los sacó con mano poderosa de Egipto, los guardó de forma milagrosa en el desierto y les entregó una tierra lista para recibir las cosechas, para habitar en las casas y para poner sus animales porque ya tenían corrales edificados.
Por eso me conmueve mucho escuchar este salmo porque podemos escuchar directamente la voz de Dios expresando Sus sentimientos, Su frustración y Su dolor porque Él tenía planes hermosos y lindos para Su pueblo Israel pero ellos decidieron olvidarse de Dios.
Me impresiona mucho esta frase que el Señor les dijo: "¡Abre bien tu boca que yo la llenaré!" En otras palabras: “Pidanme lo que quieran que yo se los voy a conceder”. ¡Imagínese! Eso significa que Dios estaba diciéndoles que entraran a comer lo que quisieran como en un buffet o banquete de manera gratuita y sin límites. Es como si alguien se acercara y te dijera: “Aquí está este cheque en blanco, simplemente pon la cantidad que necesites”.
En cambio, ellos no amaron al Señor, ellos lo rechazaron.
Estos salmos también nos ilustran la posición de alguien, en la actualidad, que ha roto el pacto con Dios, que ha rechazado las promesas increíbles que Dios le dio a Israel pero que ahora Él se las da a quien quiera decidir amarle, seguirle y clamar a Él.

Si tú eres fiel al Señor; entonces, con confianza, abre tu boca para que el Señor la llene. Pídele y Él te dará, llámale y Él te atenderá, toca la puerta de los cielos y Él te abrirá.
Jesucristo es el mismo de ayer, hoy y por los siglos. El Dios de Israel es el mismo Dios de los gentiles; nosotros que no éramos su pueblo pero ahora lo somos, que no era nuestro Dios pero ahora lo es.

Consideremos y compartamos este salmo hoy con los miembros de nuestro hogar y enseñemosles la grandeza y el poderío de nuestro Dios y lo buen Padre que es para aquellos que son Sus hijos, que deciden amarlo y escuchar Su voz.
