November 24: Lord, are your promises finished?

Psalms 77:1-20:
I cried out to God with my voice— to God with my voice; and He gave ear to me. In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord; my hand was stretched out in the night without ceasing; my soul refused to be comforted. I remembered God, and was troubled; I complained, and my spirit was overwhelmed. Selah
You hold my eyelids open; I am so troubled that I cannot speak. I have considered the days of old, the years of ancient times. I call to remembrance my song in the night; I meditate within my heart, and my spirit makes diligent search. Will the Lord cast off forever? And will He be favorable no more? Has His mercy ceased forever? Has His promise failed forevermore? Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has He in anger shut up His tender mercies? Selah
And I said, “This is my anguish; but I will remember the years of the right hand of the Most High.” I will remember the works of the Lord; surely I will remember Your wonders of old. I will also meditate on all Your work, and talk of Your deeds. Your way, O God, is in the sanctuary; who is so great a God as our God? You are the God who does wonders; You have declared Your strength among the peoples. You have with Your arm redeemed Your people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah
The waters saw You, O God; the waters saw You, they were afraid; the depths also trembled. The clouds poured out water; the skies sent out a sound; Your arrows also flashed about. The voice of Your thunder was in the whirlwind; the lightnings lit up the world; the earth trembled and shook. Your way was in the sea, Your path in the great waters, and Your footsteps were not known. You led Your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.


This is a psalm that describes the dilemma Asaph had in his heart. In this case, he was disturbed because he was going through a time of affliction and did not see the hand of God work. He was in a very big state of affliction because he was crying out to God day and night, raising his hands to heaven and prostrate, begging for God's help for him and his people, the people of Israel.
The psalmist fell into a state of commotion because he thought that the hand of God is no longer the same, that the power of God has disappeared. The psalmist remembered the powerful works that God did in the past and that made him sadder, because he thought that God no longer wants to work on behalf of His people, that His promises have finished and His compassion is exhausted.
The panic is such that doubt visited his heart, and he wondered if God really is no longer going to continue protecting, helping and sustaining them. But then a change occurred in this prayer. Asaph stops focusing on his situation and the past but on how God miraculously worked to grant them favors. He did not focus on the result but on how God worked mightily to perform the miracles.
That is why Asaph regained his strength when he remembered the way God brought the people out of Egypt, how the Red Sea parted in two, how thunder fell when the Lord manifested Himself. Asaph stopped focusing on the silence of God for which he was suffering, but instead focused on the mighty roar that the Lord produced when He was in that whirlwind taking the people of Israel out and protecting them from Pharaoh's chariots. He remembered that the God he worshiped is a God who brought out his ancestors with a strong hand, who accompanied them at night in a column of fire and by day in a column of cloud.
In the end, the reflection ends in that nobody knew how God did that. No one saw His hands and feet print; no one knew the strategy that God had to give victory to His children and punish the wicked, but they did see His power wreaking havoc!

Perhaps you are going through a process similar to that of the psalmist who did not hear the voice of God or did not see His power palpable. At that time don't give room to doubt, don't feel alone! Rather, remember the way that God has helped you before and that in the same way He will be able to do it with you. The Lord still looks at you and your family, He supports you and protects you. In those moments, where it seems that God has paused and has stopped working on your behalf is when you most have to unite as a family and prostrate before the Lord, praying without ceasing, constantly until the mighty cloud of God manifests with thunder, black clouds and darkness to ward off the enemies that are chasing you, and on the other side of the whirlwind appears in the form of fire to illuminate your path and you can walk on the dry ground in the middle of the sea of difficulties that you have to cross.

I encourage you to do together what Asaph learned to do in those moments. Let's learn verse 1 today: "I cried out to God with my voice— to God with my voice; and He gave ear to me.”

Noviembre 24: Señor, ¿se acabaron tus promesas?

Salmos 77:1‭-‬20 RVA2015:
Mi voz elevo a Dios y clamo; mi voz elevo a Dios y él me escucha. Al Señor busco en el día de mi angustia. Sin cesar extiendo a él mis manos en la noche; mi alma rehúsa el consuelo. Me acuerdo de Dios y gimo; medito y mi espíritu desfallece. Selah
Tú retienes los párpados de mis ojos; estoy turbado y no puedo hablar. Considero los días de antaño, los años antiguos. Recuerdo mi canto en la noche. Medito en mi corazón y mi espíritu investiga. ¿Acaso nos desechará el Señor para siempre? ¿Ya no volverá a ser propicio? ¿Se ha agotado para siempre su misericordia? ¿Se han acabado sus promesas por generación y generación? ¿Se ha olvidado de ser clemente? ¿En su ira ha cerrado su compasión? Selah
Y pienso: Mi tristeza es que haya cambio en la diestra del Altísimo. Me acuerdo de las obras del SEÑOR; sí, me acuerdo de tus maravillas del pasado. Medito en todos tus hechos, y reflexiono en tus actos. Oh Dios, santo es tu camino. ¿Qué Dios es grande como nuestro Dios? Tú eres un Dios que hace maravillas; has hecho conocer tu poder entre los pueblos. Con tu brazo has redimido a tu pueblo, a los hijos de Jacob y de José. Selah
Las aguas te vieron, oh Dios; las aguas te vieron y temblaron. Se estremecieron los abismos. Los nubarrones vertieron sus aguas, tronaron las nubes, también se desplazaron tus rayos. El tronar de tu voz estaba en el torbellino; los relámpagos alumbraron al mundo; la tierra se estremeció y tembló. Tu camino estaba en el mar, y tu sendero en las caudalosas aguas. Pero tus huellas nadie las pudo conocer. Como a un rebaño has conducido a tu pueblo por medio de Moisés y de Aarón.


Este es un salmo que describe el dilema que Asaf tenía en su corazón. En este caso, él estaba perturbado porque estaba pasando por un momento de aflicción y no veía la mano de Dios obrar. Se encontraba en un estado de aflicción muy grande porque él estaba clamando a Dios día y noche, levantando sus manos al cielo y postrado, rogando por el socorro de Dios para él y su pueblo, el pueblo de Israel.
El salmista cayó en un estado de conmoción porque pensó que la mano de Dios ya no es la misma, que el poder de Dios ha desaparecido. El salmista recordaba las obras poderosas que Dios hizo en el pasado y eso lo hizo estar más triste, porque pensó que Dios ya no quiere obrar a favor de Su pueblo, que se acabaron Sus promesas y se agotó Su compasión.
Es tal el pánico que la duda visitó su corazón, y se preguntó si realmente Dios ya no los va a seguir protegiendo, socorriendo y sustentando. Pero después ocurrió un cambio en esta oración. Asaf dejó de centrarse en su situación y en el pasado sino en cómo Dios obró milagrosamente para concederles los favores. No se concentró en el resultado sino en la forma en que Dios obró poderosamente para realizar los milagros.
Por eso Asaf recobró fuerzas cuando recordó la forma en que Dios sacó al pueblo de Egipto, cómo el mar rojo se partió en dos, de cómo los truenos caían cuando el Señor se manifestaba. Asaf dejó de enfocarse en el silencio de Dios por el cual él estaba sufriendo, sino que se enfocó en el estruendo poderoso que producía el Señor cuando estaba en ese torbellino sacando al pueblo de Israel y protegiéndolos de los carros de Faraón. Recordó que el Dios que adoraba es un Dios que sacó a sus antepasados con mano fuerte, que de noche los acompañaba en una columna de fuego y de día en una columna de nube.
Al final, la reflexión termina en que nadie supo cómo Dios hizo eso. Nadie vio Sus huellas de manos y pies; nadie conoció la estrategia que Dios tenía para darle la victoria a Sus hijos y castigar a los impíos, pero ¡sí vieron Su poder haciendo estragos!

Tal vez estés pasando por un proceso similar a la del salmista que no escuchaba la voz de Dios ni veía palpable Su poder. ¡En ese momento no le des cabida a la duda, no te sientas solo! Más bien, recuerda la forma en que Dios te ha socorrido anteriormente y que de esa misma forma lo va a poder hacer contigo. El Señor todavía te mira a ti y a tu familia, Él te sostiene y te protege. En esos momentos, donde parece que Dios hizo una pausa y ha dejado de obrar a tu favor es cuando más tienen que unirse como familia y postrarse ante el Señor, orando sin cesar, constantes hasta que la nube poderosa de Dios se manifieste con truenos, nubes negras y oscuridad para alejar a los enemigos que te persiguen, y por el otro lado del torbellino aparezca en forma de fuego para iluminar tu camino y puedas caminar sobre el suelo seco en medio del mar de dificultades que tienes que cruzar.

Te animo para que juntos hagamos lo que Asaf aprendió a hacer en esos momentos. Aprendamos hoy el verso 1: "Mi voz elevo a Dios y clamo; mi voz elevo a Dios y él me escucha."
