Génesis 50:14-26:
14 Después que había sepultado a su padre, José volvió a Egipto junto con sus hermanos y todos los que fueron con él para sepultar a su padre. 15 Y viendo los hermanos de José que su padre había muerto, dijeron: —Quizás José nos tenga rencor y nos devuelva todo el mal que le ocasionamos.
16 Y enviaron a decir a José: —Tu padre nos mandó antes de su muerte que te dijéramos: 17 “Así dirán a José: ‘Por favor, perdona la maldad de tus hermanos y su pecado, porque te trataron mal’ ”. Por eso, te rogamos que perdones la maldad de los siervos del Dios de tu padre.
José lloró mientras le hablaban. 18 Entonces lloraron también sus hermanos, y postrándose delante de él le dijeron: —Aquí nos tienes como siervos tuyos.
19 Pero José les respondió: —No teman. ¿Estoy yo acaso en el lugar de Dios? 20 Ustedes pensaron hacerme mal, pero Dios lo encaminó para bien, para hacer lo que vemos hoy: mantener con vida a un pueblo numeroso. 21 Ahora pues, no tengan miedo. Yo los sustentaré a ustedes y a sus hijos. Así los confortó y les habló al corazón.
22 José se quedó en Egipto con la familia de su padre. José vivió ciento diez años, 23 y vio José a los hijos de Efraín hasta la tercera generación. También cuando nacieron los hijos de Maquir hijo de Manasés fueron puestos sobre las rodillas de José.
24 Luego José dijo a sus hermanos: —Yo voy a morir, pero Dios ciertamente los visitará con su favor y los hará subir de esta tierra a la tierra que juró dar a Abraham, a Isaac y a Jacob.
25 Entonces José hizo jurar a los hijos de Israel, diciendo: —Ciertamente Dios vendrá en su ayuda; entonces ustedes harán llevar de aquí mis restos. 26 José murió a la edad de ciento diez años, y lo embalsamaron y lo pusieron en un ataúd en Egipto.

Si Dios permitió que José tuviera esos sufrimientos fue para un propósito divino.
Dios tornó para bien la envidia, el odio y las malas acciones de sus hermanos, separándolo de su padre, los trabajos forzados que hizo como esclavo, su servidumbre en la casa de Potifar y la falsa acusación de su mujer, la privación de su libertad y servicio en la cárcel. Dios escuchó las oraciones de José y las respondió al tiempo perfecto; Dios utilizó todas esas vivencias para formarlo y capacitarlo para un momento específico, y rescatarlos de una muerte lenta, cruel y segura por la hambruna desatada en ese tiempo.
Lo que ayudó a José a no tomar venganza ni guardar algún sentimiento de odio y rencor contra sus hermanos fue la capacidad de entender la mente de Dios, sus planes soberanos y la forma en que Dios toma la vida de alguien y la usa para mostrar compasión y desplegar Su poder, aun para socorrer al que ha sido injusto y ha obrado mal. Al fin y al cabo, el resultado de las bendiciones de Dios para con Jacob y sus hijos superó en creces las obras de maldad que los hermanos de José cometieron contra él.
Es por eso que el apóstol Pablo nos enseña que dejemos toda clase de venganza, y más bien sirvamos con amor al que nos ultraja, pues Dios mira esa actitud y transformará tu sufrimiento en bendición, y dará el justo castigo al opresor.
Romanos 12:19-21 dice: ”Amados, no se venguen ustedes mismos sino dejen lugar a la ira de Dios, porque está escrito: Mía es la venganza; yo pagaré, dice el Señor. Más bien, si tu enemigo tiene hambre, dale de comer; y si tiene sed, dale de beber; pues haciendo esto, carbones encendidos amontonarás sobre su cabeza. No seas vencido por el mal sino vence el mal con el bien.”
Déjale la justicia al Señor, y tú más bien cumple Su perfecta voluntad.

When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, “Perhaps Joseph will hate us, and may actually repay us for all the evil which we did to him.” So they sent messengers to Joseph, saying, “Before your father died he commanded, saying, ‘Thus you shall say to Joseph: “I beg you, please forgive the trespass of your brothers and their sin; for they did evil to you.” ’ Now, please, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of your father.” And Joseph wept when they spoke to him.
Then his brothers also went and fell down before his face, and they said, “Behold, we are your servants.”
Joseph said to them, “Do not be afraid, for am I in the place of God? But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive. Now therefore, do not be afraid; I will provide for you and your little ones.” And he comforted them and spoke kindly to them.
So Joseph dwelt in Egypt, he and his father’s household. And Joseph lived one hundred and ten years. Joseph saw Ephraim’s children to the third generation. The children of Machir, the son of Manasseh, were also brought up on Joseph’s knees.
And Joseph said to his brethren, “I am dying; but God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land to the land of which He swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.” Then Joseph took an oath from the children of Israel, saying, “God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones from here.” So Joseph died, being one hundred and ten years old; and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.
In this chapter we find several events of strong emotions: Jacob dies, Joseph weeps uncontrollably, and the entire nation of Egypt mourns for their hero Joseph. Also, the Canaanites around the cave of Machpelah are surprised by the crowd of mourners who mourned loudly as they buried Jacob.
All of these emotions stirred up the past that Joseph's brothers tried to bury; they feared, they could not ignore this dark thought: Could it be that now that our father is gone, Joseph is going to take revenge for what we did to him?
That is when Joseph teaches us with his loving and noble reaction. Immediately, he reminded them of what he had already told them when he revealed himself to them as their brother, when they did not know that the second in command after Pharaoh was their own brother; he reminded them that it was God who put him there. If God allowed Joseph to have these sufferings and difficulties, it was for a divine purpose.
God turned for good the envy, hatred and bad actions of his brothers, separating him from their father, the forced labor he did as a slave, his servitude in the house of Potiphar and the false accusation of his wife, the deprivation of his freedom and jail service. God heard Joseph's prayers and answered them at the perfect time; God used all those experiences to form and train them for a specific moment, and rescue them from a slow, cruel and certain death due to the famine unleashed at that time.
What helped Joseph not to take revenge or hold any feelings of hatred and resentment against his brothers was the ability to understand the mind of God, His sovereign plans and the way God takes someone's life and uses it to show compassion and deploy His power, even to help those who have been unjust and have done wrong. After all, the result of God's blessings to Jacob and his sons far outweighed the wicked deeds that Joseph's brothers committed against him.
That is why the apostle Paul teaches us to leave all kinds of revenge, and rather serve with love the one who insults us, because God looks at that attitude and will transform your suffering into a blessing, and will give the oppressor the just punishment.
Romans 12:19-21 says: “Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” (NIV).
Leave the justice to the Lord, and you rather fulfill His perfect will.
