I've been working at NASA for over fifteen years now, and in that time, I've seen dozens of proposals for a manned landing on Mars. Hundreds of people spent weeks at a time discussing the engineering process behind designing a craft capable of carrying out the task of transporting mankind back and forth between the two planets. Millions of dollars poured into projects that never came to light. And for the longest time, the problem was that we simply couldn't feasibly land someone on the planet and then help them return home safely. In part, that was one of the reasons we launched the Mars Exploration Rovers.
But In Truth..The Real Hazard Was Not The Trip Too & From The Planets, But Rather Whats Was Already Awaiting Our Arrival & That Would Be Much More Worrying!
