E13: Usaama Kaweesa is a recruitment officer by day and a historian by night. Being a history enthusiast, he looks to bring light to lesser known historic stories and hidden figures through his adventures on his @Black.Historian feed. We become educated on the origins of Black History Month stemming from Negro History Week, misconceptions of the prevailing narration of slavery and other missing pivotal historical chapters. We dig through the archive ;) on white washed inventions like the Lightbulb, some of UK’s white savers, London’s first black mayor, Underground Railroad misconceptions and uprising in many countries that led to nicknames like The Black Spartacus and Henry ‘Box’ Brown. Some educational sources such as @KevinHart4Real ’s ‘Guide to Black History’ @Netflix special, @InternationalSlaveryMuseum and various books (@DavidOlusoga , @AkalaMusic and @AfuaHirsch ) are discussed.
