He is the author of numerous books, including Look Away!: A History of the Confederate States of America, Jefferson Davis: The Man and His Hour, and Crucible of Command: Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee - the War They Fought, the Peace They Forged. His most recent work is The Greatest Fury: The Battle of New Orleans and the Rebirth of America.
