Lily Dale was incorporated in 1879 as Cassadaga Lake Free Association, a camp and meeting place for Spiritualists and Freethinkers. The name was changed to The City of Light in 1903 and finally to Lily Dale Assembly in 1906. I stay at The Jewel On The Lake and had a woman materialized before me at the foot of the stairs on the second floor. She was dressed in Victorian attire. And the she disappeared. I was so shocked since I thought it was a friend of mine waiting for me.

One of thehotels I stood in years ago at the dale,I think it was called "The Maplewood"or something like that. The hotel is defintely haunted.

One of the Fox sisters married a very wealthy man. He married her only is she stopped her mediumship. So she did for about 4-6 years until her husband’s early passing. She couldn’t inherit his wealth because women couldn’t inherit a man’s wealth. So she went back to mediumship. She was pressured by the press with a good some of money to claim and express in public that the whole thing was a fraud. She took the money because women living alone had a difficult time financially in those days. So sad.
