College Station city councilman-elect Dennis Maloney has a couple of issues he wants to pursue after rejoining the governing body.

One topic won't take place for a couple of years, when the city can consider its next proposed changes to the city charter.

Maloney wants to return municipal elections to May. He says that will allow voters to focus on local issues and not state and national candidates as part of November elections.

This year, Maloney and two opponents collected around 21,000 votes in the November general election. In the recent runoff election, there were about 2,100 votes between Maloney and Elizabeth Cunha.

Maloney also wants to learn why College Station city property taxes have been rising and impact fees have been implemented at a time of increased property values.

Maloney will be sworn in December 19 during a special council meeting.
