Plans are underway for not only Brazos County's first interstate highway, but a direct route from B/CS to the gulf coast.
The Bryan city council was told this week that a freeway between Hempstead and Freeport could be built in the next five to ten years.
The director of the local metropolitan planning organization, Dan Rudge, says large commercial ships will be going in and out of Freeport instead of Houston.
Rudge says that puts more emphasis on building Interstate 14.
Rudge says the best case scenario calls for I-14...connecting the Fort Hood area to Fort Polk in Louisiana...to be built in the next seven to 12 years.
