At the end of each weekly meeting of the Brazos County commission, members are given a report of the current jail population.
At this week's meeting, sheriff Chris Kirk provided statistics that included the most inmates are held from June through October.
In the last 12 months, the month with the highest daily average was September with 729. The month with the lowest daily average was December 2017 at 591.
Kirk believes the pattern is driven by the courts...which are more active during the summer and less active during the holidays.
At the time of the sheriff's report, 388 of 670 inmates were waiting for trial, another 119 were serving time, and 94 were being held on parole violations.
The jail has nearly 1,100 beds.
