There was applause at Monday night's College Station city council meeting, after a majority vote reversed a decision two months ago on the naming of the city's new community center....
show moreThe word "senior" will be added, after Mayor Karl Mooney and councilwoman Linda Harvell changed their minds from the initial vote on March 29.
Mooney and Harvell joined Bob Brick and John Nichols to support the inclusion of "senior".
Jerome Rektorik and James Benham repeated their original votes to keep the name as a community center.
Barry Moore, who joined Rektorik and Benham in the original vote, was not at Monday's meeting.
Following the March 29 vote, the parks and recreation advisory board voted 7-1 last month to recommend renaming the building The Bob and Wanda Meyer Senior and Community Center.
Then College Station's senior advisory committee joined the parks and recreation board to ask the council to reconsider its earlier decision.
