In June 2013, Walmart Inc. filed a lawsuit against Gene Lantz, the North Texas chapter of JWJ, the United Food and Commercial Workers Union, and the Organization United for Respect at Walmart (OURWalmart), alleging trespass. It seeks a permanent injunction against Lantz and the other defendants, as well as less than $100,000 in damages.Lantz has been a dedicated labour activist since the 1970s. In addition to his duties as retiree chairman of the local 848, does a  labour-oriented radio program the "Workers Beat" on KNON 89.3 and has long been affiliated with the local Jobs With Justice chapter, writing about workplace issues.
