Zepf Center is repeating its very successful fundraiser “Don’t Skirt the Issue – Help” on Friday, October 20 at the Zepf Community Center, 2272 Collingwood Blvd. All proceeds are directed towards developing housing specifically for mothers, allowing them to continue working on their recovery without being separated from their children, the #1 reason why women leave treatment. Last year almost $30,000 was raised for this project.

“Don’t Skirt the Issue – Help” is an evening of music, friends, and fun at the Zepf Community Center featuring Glass City Talent 419 and Guy in the 419 - Pat McCarty. Emcees for the evening include Melissa Voetsch -13 ABC and Fred LeFebvre 1370 WSPD.

Read one woman’s story: For many years, when people hear about the city of Toledo, they think of a nice place to live and do business. Unfortunately, now when you say Toledo many think of heroin and illicit drugs. Unfortunately, Ohio happens to be number one in the country for heroin related deaths.

Here in the Toledo area, Karen Freiberger is trying to come up with ideas to remedy some of this problem. She has joined in this fight against heroin for several personal reasons. She is the mother of two children. Her son is an F-18 aviator in the Marine Corps and her beautiful daughter is a 10-year heroin addict (currently in recovery). They both come from the same middle-class upbringing and yet chose such different path. Because of this, she feels the need to battle this horrible drug to help save the community in which I live.

The event features food from area restaurants, including Ciao, Zia’s, Real Seafood, Saba’s Bistro, LaScola, and Manhattan’s. Desserts are being planned by women in recovery. Amazing gifts are lined up for the live and silent auctions including a trip to Turks and Caico’s with airfare, an apartment in France, sailing cruises, dinner and wine tasting at Plat 8. Tickets are $60.00 each - for tickets or more information, please click the links below or call 419-841-7701.

Major Sponsors are Stapleton Insurance, Walker Funeral Home, GKN Driveline-Bowling Green, 5/3 Bank, City Paper/MLiving Magazine, 13Abc, IHeart Media-Toledo and Sylvania Advantage
