Drug overdose deaths during the pandemic hit the highest number ever recorded. CDC data shows that deaths skyrocketed to 93-thousand in 2020, up from 72-thousand in 2019. That's an increase of close to 30-percent. Dr. Nora Volkow with the National Institute on Drug Abuse says the numbers are "chilling" and blames the COVID-19 pandemic for creating a "devastating collision of health crises in America." Most of the deaths involved opioids, synthetic or otherwise.
