Jimmy Barrett and Shara Fryer take you through the stories that matter on the morning of 08/23/2019, including: Fox News' Laura Ingraham took on members of the Democratic Party for what she said was "rooting against America" and disparaging supporters of President Trump, and said the left is largely "furious" they may lose the 2020 election to the New York Republican. "Rooting against America, referring to millions of voters as 'deplorables' or 'racists' or bigot-coddlers is not the language of a confident optimistic party," she said Monday on "The Ingraham Angle." "It is the language of people who are furious that they could lose another presidential election," she said. There's more turmoil brewing at the National Rifle Association. Three more NRA leaders have stepped down in a growing exodus amid controversy over the group's spending. These are pretty famous faces, too: Country music singer and NRA board member Craig Morgan resigned this week, as did NASCAR team owner Richard Childress. Also jumping ship is David Lehman, the deputy chief at the NRA's political arm. President Trump has also pushed back against the group, after it was suggested he tabled the idea of universal background checks following a call from NRA President Wayne LaPierre. Despite Democrats’ failed talking points, it’s clear our nation’s economy under President Trump’s leadership is strong and booming like never before. For the first time since 2009, year over year nominal hourly wage growth met or surpassed 3 percent under the Trump Administration. Over 6 million jobs have been created since President Trump was elected. The national unemployment rate is at near 50-year lows. We’re seeing near-record low unemployment numbers for women, African Americans, Hispanic Americans and Asian Americans. The first tax reform bill in 30 years led to historic tax cuts for 90% of American families. President Trump says he is “very seriously” looking at ending the current policy of birthright citizenship in the United States, whereby hundreds of thousands of U.S.-born children to illegal aliens — often referred to as “anchor babies” — are rewarded with American citizenship every year. Nearly a year ago, Trump promised that he was readying an executive order to end birthright citizenship, but the issue has been stalled since October 2018. To date, the U.S. Supreme Court has never explicitly ruled that the children of illegal aliens must be granted birthright citizenship, and many legal scholars dispute the idea.
