Jimmy Barrett and Shara Fryer take you through the stories that matter on the morning of 07/02/2019, including: Two Texas doctors are suing the state over a law prohibiting them from selling prescription drugs to their patients. The plaintiffs – a family physician in Austin and an ophthalmologist in San Antonio – argue that Texas’ ban is irrational and unconstitutional. Since the 1980s, Texas has banned doctors from dispensing medicine directly to their patients unless they practice more than 15 miles away from a pharmacy. That means most doctors in the state can give patients only a 72-hour supply of prescription drugs, unless they have a pharmacist’s license. Currently, 45 other states and Washington, D.C., allow doctors to dispense medication to their patients. Twitter will start labeling tweets from public officials that violate the company's rules — and that's likely to affect the President of the United States. The labeling will only apply to the accounts of public officials or people running for office who are verified on Twitter and have at least 100,000 followers. The labeling is Twitter's alternative to taking down tweets that violate its rules but are still in the public interest. Such tweets will also be de-prioritized in Twitter's algorithm, meaning fewer people will see them. Did the Democrats Step on a Second Big Land Mine? On immigration, they’ve steered the party close to an open-borders policy without any serious reckoning with how to handle the influx of arrivals. Every candidate on stage for Thursday’s debate pledged in one way or another to radically alter the Trump administration’s draconian approach to undocumented immigrants and asylum-seekers. Yet, the Democrats may have pushed too far in the opposite direction. It’s hard to exaggerate how dramatic a shift this is from the approach of the past two Democratic presidents. Here, for instance, is President Bill Clinton in his 1995 State of the Union address: “All Americans, not only in the states most heavily affected but in every place in this country, are rightly disturbed by the large numbers of illegal aliens entering our country. The jobs they hold might otherwise be held by citizens or legal immigrants.” And here is President Barack Obama in a 2014 interview with ABC News: “That is our direct message to the families in Central America: Do not send your children to the borders… Undocumented workers broke our immigration laws, and I believe that they must be held accountable.”
