Jimmy Barrett and Shara Fryer take you through the stories that matter on the morning of 05/17/2019, including: President Trump says his new immigration reform plan "will transform America's immigration system." In a White House speech, Trump and said it will create a fair, modern and lawful immigration system. The proposal aims to move the U.S. toward a merit-based immigration system. It does not address Dreamers, the millions of young men and women who were brought into the U.S. illegally as children. He also took a shot at Democrats, saying they are for open borders and "lawless chaos." House Speaker Nancy Pelosi argued, the manner in which the President has gone forward on immigration "undermines our humanitarianism as a country." Pelosi also called it shameful. On the Senate floor, Minority Leader Chuck Schumer accused Trump of promoting anti-immigration policies. He called the new immigration plan a radical political document. Meanwhile, in a recent Harvard/Harris Poll, less than two-in-15 American voters correctly said there are between 250,000 to 500,000 border apprehensions each year. Meanwhile, more than three-in-four Americans incorrectly said there are between zero to 250,000 border apprehensions a year. The Dems are in disarray ahead of the 2020 election – how will all this play out? Despite his Obama-like apology tour in the past week, poll numbers suggest Dem voters have dropped Beto like a bad habit. In a larger sense, are Dems just drifting from one “favorite” to another? How does a candidate differentiate him/herself in a crowded field where they all endorse the exact same things? Mark Cuban on Which Democrat Can Beat Trump: ‘Nobody Right Now’. Saturday marks the one-year anniversary of the Santa Fe High School shooting. What’s been done to secure our schools a year later? What’s the legislature doing?
