The nationwide survey of 3,537 adults found that lower-income adults were more likely to skip care or fear bankruptcy over spiraling medical costs, but even affluent households deferred care over concerns about finances. West Health, a nonprofit coalition funded by Gary and Mary West, commissioned and funded the Gallup survey. The risk of alienating part of their customer base keeps most organizations and executives in the U.S. retail industry from openly revealing their political affiliations. That does not always stop them from backing their chosen candidates. Donations might be quietly made by some executives while others will indirectly endorse their politico of choice. While it is expected that anyone can have a political affiliation, the business of buying and selling of products and services is bipartisan activity. A study on state-level gun control laws in the U.S. shows that bans on “high-capacity” magazines and “assault weapons” do not lower homicide rates. The study was headed by Boston University School of Public Health’s Michael Siegel and another listed study author was Harvard gun control advocate David Hemenway.
