Jimmy Barrett and Shara Fryer take you through the stories that matter on the morning of 03/29/2019, including: Have you noticed when you go to the doctor’s office these days that they ask for your payment before doctor even sees you? You even have to pay first before having procedures like endoscopies, colonoscopies, etc. I’m not paying for my meal at a restaurant before I eat it – so why the change in the medical industry? Because…the deductible for your health insurance is five times higher than it was ten years ago, and while hospitals and facilities find themselves increasingly holding the bag with unpaid bills, they’re moving to collect payment as soon in the process as they can. Back when hospitals were paid by health insurance companies they were confident they’d get paid; with patients now footing the bill, receipt of payment is far less certain. Healthcare Financial Management Association reports almost three-quarters of hospital systems now ask for payment in advance of common procedures including colonoscopies, endoscopies and preventative or elective surgeries. Consumer Reports says patients always retain the right to ask what other payment options are available and are not always required to pay in advance. Court packing? Reparations? Abolishing the Electoral College? For a Democratic presidential field shaping up to be the most liberal grouping of candidates in modern American history, it appears no idea is too far-reaching to at least consider. Can worker get written up for changing TV to Fox News? Free-speech rights differ in office Free-speech rights are guaranteed under the U.S. Constitution, but the Constitution doesn’t apply to private employment. Employers generally have the authority to control how employees express themselves on the job and are allowed to discipline and even terminate employees who act unprofessionally or create disturbances – and this includes political expression.
