Jimmy Barrett and Shara Fryer take you through the stories that matter on the morning of 12/14/2018, including: Employees with 401(k) plans are suffering from ‘balance trauma’ as they get an early look at their fourth quarter statements. By one estimate, the average 401(k) owner with 100 percent invested in U.S. stocks is currently sitting on a paper loss of $8,733 since the end of September. Wall Street pros stress that investing for retirement is a long-term endeavor. They say it’s important to remember that since you’re saving for retirement 10, 20, 30, even 40 years down the road, it makes little sense to panic and get out of the stock market because of one bad stretch; Despite a thriving economy, 62% of all employed Americans have not seen a salary increase this past year and yet only 25% will be looking for a better paying job in the upcoming year, according to a new survey by Bankrate.com. This is an increase from 2017 when 52% of American workers reported no salary increase; Illegal immigration skyrocketed to the highest level in more than a decade for the month of November, as President Trump’s border wall remains unfunded by the Republican-controlled Congress. Last month, illegal immigration at the United States-Mexico border soared to levels that the country has not seen since Fiscal Year 2014, when more than 51,500 illegal aliens tried to cross the border in April 2015. In November 2018, there were close to 52,000 border crossings on the southern border, alone, marking the highest level of illegal immigration in the month of November since 2006; Facebook filed a patent to calculate your future location. Facebook has filed several patent applications with the US Patent and Trademark Office for technology that uses your location data to predict where you’re going and when you’re going to be offline. While a patent application doesn’t necessarily mean that Facebook plans to implement the technology, it does show the company’s interest in tracking and predicting your locations, an important tool for helping it serve you more effective ads.
