Jimmy Barrett and Shara Fryer take you through the stories that matter on the morning of 11/02/2018, including: Today is the last day of early voting. Turnout numbers have shattered records for midterm elections in Texas. What does this mean for Election Day on Tuesday? The "Beto" effect. Enthusiasm for Democratic candidates in Texas this year is in large part trickling down from the top of the ticket where U.S. Senate nominee Robert O’Rourke, an El Paso congressman, is running a progressive campaign against Republican incumbent Ted Cruz that has drawn national attention. O’Rourke raised a record-breaking $38 million in the third quarter and $70.2 million overall; A majority of U.S. college students report often feeling “intimidated” to disagree with professors who express their own personal political or social beliefs while teaching classes. A national online survey of 800 full-time undergraduates in both public and private schools found 53 percent of participants said they often “felt intimidated” to openly share ideas, opinions, or beliefs that were different from those expressed by professors in class; Headline issues, from immigration to sexual assault, are causing significant stress among members of Generation Z – those between ages 15 and 21 – with mass shootings topping the list of stressful current events, according to the American Psychological Association's report Stress in America™: Generation Z released today. Despite these concerns, Gen Z adults who are 18 to 21 years old are the generation least likely to vote in the 2018 midterm elections. Current events are clearly stressful for everyone in the country, but young people are really feeling the impact of issues in the news, particularly those issues that may feel beyond their control.
