Softy and Dick are on their way to Minneapolis for the Final Four. They'll be broadcasting from Radio Row tomorrow and Thursday. In the meantime, Terry Blount is filling in this afternoon. The Mariners continue to roll, beating the Angels 2-1 in their final game of the first home stand of the season. Marco pitched a near-complete game, Daniel Vogelbach hit his first home run of the year, and the defense looked okay. Usually Petros Papadakis joins us at 4:20; today we've moved it up to 3:20. Petros talks with Terry about everything happening in the world of sports, from the Final Four, to the Wilson contract negotiations. Payrolls for baseball teams vary pretty substantially, from just $53 million, to well over $200 million. Just two guys on the Red Sox make more than the Rays' entire payroll combined. Now, some teams are paying players in advance of free agency, offering them less than they'd make if they wait, but more than they'd make in the short term. It's a way to keep players around who would otherwise leave, and it's a pretty good strategy for teams trying to keep talent while avoiding massive contracts.
