Working from home at first glance releases stressed commuters from their daily grind both the stress and cost of it and gives parents a fighting chance to reliably pick up their kids. It may even give you a sense of autonomy especially with a micromanaging boss. It even in a lot of cases increases productivity. But the rest is all bad, in fact very bad and dangerous to the future of human society. If working from home was suitable it would have gone mainstream a long time ago. We have had the technology for years. Skype has allowed group video as well as other apps. children and university students would have stayed home. Armies would have sanctioned working from home. Once you start extrapolating the obvious examples the shear illogicality becomes increasingly evident. Working from home reduces creativity and makes people 34 times less collaborative with each other 34 times less likely to respond positively to a request made by email rather than face to face. Based on the fact that we are hard wired to be collaborative as we are tribal this is the antithesis of our social functioning. Humans as a rules are incapable of self direction and need to be led. That is an evolutionary phenomenon as we responds to hierarchy and leadership and therefore is a strength of religion and a fatal flaw of capitalism.
