Welcome to This Edition of RiversZen Today for Monday, December 3rd, 2018

The news of the day: Last week we focused on being mindful, being aware of our actions both on and off the mat. This week its another component of that . . . to find ease, or relaxation or working toward being stress-free. Now there is a concept for you for this holiday season. Can you go through the holiday and not be frazzled? Can you allow yourself to not fret over what does not get done? Try to look at the holiday in a different light. What’s the most important part of the holidays? I think to be with family and friends. But there are times when certain family members or friends can add to the stress level. Resolve to take a new stance. Breathe! Agree to disagree or completely set aside your differences. Choose your battles over the holidays and every day for that matter. Emotions can be amplified during the holidays by stress and alcohol. Work toward limiting both and trying to diffuse issues before they get started. Might sound easier said than done . . . but truly worth a try. If all else fails, try what I did decades ago. When the conversation turns from holiday cheer to argumentative accusations, retreat to the kitchen and do the dishes. They rarely follow you if there is work to be done.
