This show marks the beginning of Black History Month 2020. We have decided to kick off the month by celebrating the first television sitcom which depicted positive roles for Black people. The show was called "Julia" and it starred the always elegant and dignified Diahann Carroll as the lead with today's special guest, Marc Copage as her son Corey. This was the first show that starred a black person in a non stereotypical role. Julia was a nurse, strong, independent, beautiful, classy, and smart. Her son Corey was adorable, well spoken and well mannered. He represented my brother, he represented me, all of us black kids in the late 1960's and early 1970's who had to look far and wide for positive images of ourselves on the boob tube.  I recall watching the show just waiting for Corey's scenes. He represented us well! I don't know if he understood his role or the impact the show would have on millions, but he is a very important part of our history. Black History in America. The show was groundbreaking and in retrospect was the door opener for show like "Cosby" and "Blackish".  We are very pleased to have our Corey, Mr. Marc Copage,  Television's First Black Child Star on Brunch in the Basement with JaVonne & Terez.
