After graduating from medical school, Dr. Iván Figueroa-Otero trained as an Academic Pediatric Surgeon and dedicated his life to public service until retiring from surgery. He then redirected his practice to Integrative Medicine concentrating his efforts in Chinese Style of Medical acupuncture.
In 2011, Dr. Ivan was invited to be a Trustee of the American Board of Medical Acupuncture, which is the national body responsible for certifying physicians in the field of acupuncture and was recognized by the Natural Awakenings magazine as the Holistic Physician of the Year. He is currently engaged in private practice, and continues in his role as an educator trying to achieve full integration of Chinese acupuncture in the curriculum of Medical Schools and to incorporate spirituality and meditation techniques into the medical curriculum and promote their role in preventative and therapeutic medicine.
