What would you think about a club where the only rules are "to love art and to be kind to each other?" Where everyone must follow these rules, including teachers and parents! These are the rules of the New Zealand Children's Art Houses. Join us as Sister Jenna interviews Shona Hammond Boys, Founder and National Director of the New Zealand Children's Art House Foundation.
Shona's work in establishing and supporting the development of childrens art houses in New Zealand and around the world earned her the Queen's Service Medal. An artist, teacher and musician, Shona has world traveled, and and held international and national appointments. She is an outspoken advocate for childrens art in the community.
Shona authored the book entitled, "Oku Moe Moea" (The Dream Which Is Bigger Than I AM) and directed the film based on the book to premiere at the New Zealand Embassy in Washington, D.C. on July 6, 2015. Shona has been an advisor to the International Child Art Foundation since its inception in 1997 and continues to work globally to support and encourage children's creative opportunities worldwide.
Shona is the recipient of the 2015 World Childrens Award, the President of the US Volunteer Service Award, and the 2014 New Zealand of the Year Award. Visit www.arthouse.org.nz.
