If you are ever accused of a crime of any kind, an investigation that is thorough, objective, and fair is one of the most important protections we have against a wrongful conviction. Ethical codes require that investigations be based on principles of honesty and impartiality. The "Start By Believing" campaign, however, trains investigators to begin an investigation by presuming the guilt of the accused. “Start By Believing” programs consistently use the guilt-presuming word "victim," not "complainant." The “presumption of innocence” has been eroded over time but it must be restored if we are to restore our Republic.
