I sit down with Prof. Jeffrey R. Paine to discuss his research into the flying saucer flap of 1947, what led up to it, what happened, what followed in its aftermath, and how some of the experiencers of that flap were emotionally affected. Jeff has recently re-read all the classic UFO literature of that golden era, which he had first read as a youngster in the mid-1960s, but he was armed this time with far more information, via FOI requests, leaks, and decades worth of accumulated knowledge/experience. Jeff's training gave him an edge too, he was able to sift through all available information to look for patterns, facts, figures, and to see what had been omitted by official sources, etc. Jeff's findings may surprise you, as he puts these strange historic events into context, and explains how we, as humans, uniquely experience events, and then (also uniquely) express those events in different ways too. As he says, "Stories is all we have." We couldn't squeeze all this information into the time I'm currently allotted on the Spreaker platform, but don't fret, we are planning a follow-up episode soon! We are, as Jeff tells us, not really much wiser now, in 2022, than we were back in 1947, despite having all these extra data at our disposal now. All we know for sure is that some people, much higher numbers than you might imagine, DID experience something very, very strange, something that we STILL can't explain away as mere delusions, hoaxes, mis-identifications, etc. As Donald E. Keyhoe said, "Flying Saucers are real!" We just can't explain them, or the emotional reactions/experiences they induce in us with our present knowledge. Enjoy the conversation!
