Our relationship with food is our longest standing relationship and the one that requires the most nourishing, but oftentimes it is the one we neglect the most. On today’s episode, we sit down with Madison Madden, Ayurvedic doctor, author of Mind Body Food, and owner of Live Wise Ayurvedic Clinic in Austin, TX, to discuss the importance of our relationship with food and the impact it has on our healing journey. She explains that Ayurveda is the sister-science to yoga, discusses the different ayurvedic constitutions (known as the doshas), and teaches listeners how to eat in alignment with your constitution. She also talks about the connection between the mind and the gut, and why it’s important to focus on both to maintain optimal health.

What’s discussed in this episode:

  • How disordered eating is praised in today’s society
  • How isolation impacts the sympathetic nervous system
  • What the three doshas are (Pitta, Vata, Kapha)
  • The mind gut connection and the role it plays in both physical and mental health
  • The gut’s involvement in serotonin production
  • How the suppression of natural urges contributes to disease
