How well do you know the product that you are selling? How much is too much, and how little is too little? Though in the first segment of this series we focused on selling from a benefit point of view and not a descriptive point of view, knowing your product’s overall description (but not necessarily every fine detail) is imperative. Even though the customer will rarely want to know the product description, you should have enough information to offer a recommendation and become a master of what you are selling.
The more knowledge you have of a product, the more confident you will be when selling it and the more help you can give. Customers will be much more willing to purchase a product when they feel a sense of trust in the information you give them. Honesty also brings more sales, and honesty comes from having enough information.
In this episode, I share tips on how to know your product well. Knowing exactly which product segments are the most important and how much time you should be spending on each one is key to success. Identifying which details are essential will save you valuable time and help you focus your efforts where they count the most.
You don’t want to miss this! Snapshot of the Key Points from the Episode: [01:58] Know your product - Why is it important? [04:04] Understand who the product works for. [08:22] Know what the customer is going to use the product for. [14:16] Know what else goes well with that product. [18:25] The changing customer buying patterns.
