This week we’re heading a little further afield to the Western United States, and back in time to the 1930s, with our guest, author Rebekah Anderson. Rebekah studied under author E.L. Doctorow, and her writing has received multiple awards and fellowships. Her debut novel, “The Grand Promise,” is a beautifully-written, character-driven work of literary fiction, loosely based on her own family history. In examining the real communities impacted by the construction of the Grand Coulee Dam under Franklin D. Roosevelt’s presidency, Rebekah challenges us to think about how we react in times of change: “Do you cling to the past and the memories of what was? Or do you move forward into the unknown?”

In our conversation, Rebekah shares her family ties, what surprises her research uncovered, some excellent advice, and more. Then, she treats us to a reading from “The Grand Promise.”

About Us
Since well before Victor Hugo looked up at Notre Dame and thought, "Huh... what if a hunchback lived in there?" authors have been inspired by Paris. The Storytime in Paris podcast will help keep this tradition alive with short interviews and readings from your favorite contemporary authors with a French connection.

Every episode will feature five questions, asked by you, our authors' biggest fans, and answered live on air. Then, our authors will treat us to a reading of an excerpt from their book. Who knows? Maybe you'll even be inspired to write your own Great French Novel. Happy listening!
