TEST SITE is a collaborative, urban research project based on Kyrl’s Quay, Cork City. Co-created by Ailbhe Cunningham + Aoife Desmond, the project works at the intersection of art, architecture and ecology. Engaging with natural and built heritage, the project uses site-specific architectural interventions, film/performance work, discursive talks and live events to respond to a vacant ‘island’ site on Kyrl’s Quay, Cork City Centre.
Aoife and a number of others including Ailbhe Cunningham, Mary Kelleher and Cáit Ní Dhuinnín are all working on an urban research project on Kyrl's Quay, at the end of Cornmarket Street. On a site which was H.Parker & Sons / Cork Timber, Slate & Cement Co. timber yard and sawmill.
Aoife and her team decided to take advantage of the empty space to draw the attention to the space, as well as it's artistic potential and how the public can participate in the building of our city.
They are aiming to be open by the end of June, with live talks, live performances, music and film.
It is a temporary installation for a two month period, but it’s hoped that it may become a long running project.
