Al Strathdee was first elected Mayor in 2014 and is now serving his second term. He is a graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University, with an Honours BA in History and Political Science and also is a graduate of the University of Ottawa with a Bachelor of Education. Al is a business small operator and has always been actively involved in several community organizations. Al and his wife Gloria have three children. Al enjoys travel, music and spending time with family.

It was great to hear from our old friend Mayor Strathdee. We've been able to keep tabs on how al and Council have done a fab job steering St. Marys through the churning landscape of the pandemic. There might be a few politicians that would admit to entering an electoral race 'because I was pissed off', but Al had every right to do so. His transition to Mayor simply meant that he would continue to contribute to the community in another way, already having devoted untold hours over the years as a member/leader in service groups and action committees. Thanks for interviewing him, and for Al: best wishes for continued success.
