James Ferrel is a wave cinematographer specialist, photographer, filmmaker, friend, and an overall stoked dude who loves everything ocean. He spends most of his time exploring Southern California searching for the coolest and most unique waves and aesthetically pleasing spots to capture through his camera lens. His work has been featured on both Surfline and The Inertia, popular surf publications to the layman, and he also runs a surf-footage-based TikTok account called surftock with videos that have reached over 2 million views. Throughout our conversation, James talks about how he progressed from taking photos with his GoPro in 3-foot surf at his local surf break, all the way to filming 12-foot waves in Tahiti, while also explaining how he gets in the right place at the right time to get the best shot possible.
