Bumble Bee Song – Version 1
I'm bringing home a baby bumblebee
Won't my mommy be so proud of me?
I'm bringing home a baby bumblebee
Buzz-a-buzz-a-buzz-buzz
Ouch! It stung me

I'm squishing up the baby bumblebee
Won't my mommy be so proud of me?
I'm squishing up the baby bumblebee
Buzz-a-buzz-a-buzz-buzz
Ooh! It's yucky!

I'm wiping off the baby bumblebee
Won't my mommy be so proud of me?
'm wiping off the baby bumblebee
Now my mommy won't be mad at me

This is the classic Bumble Bee song, the one I learned in Girl Scout camp and happily sang to my own squeamish mother. It has history, but looking at it now, it seems anti -bee.

I found this version in Pam Schiller and Thomas Moore’s book, Over the Moon!(Gryphon House, Inc., 2006)
It is much friendlier to our bee friends and has the bonus of instilling lines of communication to solve conflicts. In either case it’s fun to act out the actions while you sing. You can find a recording on the website, as well.

Baby Bumblebee adapted by Richele Bartkowiak (Version 2)

I caught myself a baby bumblebee.
Won’t my mommy be so proud of me?
I caught myself a baby bumblebee
Ouch! He stung me!

I’m talking to my baby bumblebee.
Won’t my mommy be so proud of me?
I’m talking to my baby bumblebee.
“Oh,” he said, “I’m sorry.”

I’m letting go my baby bumblebee.
Won’t my mommy be so proud of me?
I’m letting go my baby bumblebee,
Look, he’s happy to be free!

Whether you sing the rugged classic version, or the eco-friendly, conflict resolution version, the Bumble Bee song is a great song on a warm summer’s day. Have fun!
