I'm not a martyr for altruism, but when one suffers, we all suffer....but you always put on your mask first in a falling airplane.
Gee...reminds me of somewhere E and I use to work...giving so much of yourself that it decreases your own mental and physical health
I would say it depends on the church. I've actually seen some that do teach compassion. But seems to be the exception.
Compassion is the human spirit. But that's never talked about in church unless you're talking about Jesus's compassion...of which, apparently, we're not worthy?
It took me a while to even accept original sin, now I'm glad to have shed it.
For ptsd you can also witness something serious or have knowledge of major harm or death to a loved one... something like that
You have yourself free will without the guilt given to you by the church.
I think it's harder to admit you have something and acknowledge your feelings when you know someone else has had it "worse"
