Another common abuser tactic is for the abuser to take the victims phone. In my case, C would take my phone to keep me from calling the police or friends/family. He would also take it to read texts, phone calls in & out (in addition to him looking over social media constantly). In this specific instance, he has verbally & emotionally abused me this day so badly that I went to the bedroom closet, laid there and cried for hours. I texted with friends and one offered a place for me to stay in Florida if I left C. For the rest of our time together, this friend, who I'll call Juan, was the subject of many future verbal assaults on me by C. It was common for C to say I was sleeping with my entire Special Forces Group unit, was meeting Coronado based Navy SEAL friends at the Westwind Inn on Travis AFB, CA to cheat on him, or was meeting "rich guys" in Napa behind his back. I was a "whore", a "slut", a "loser" (while female service members were all whores, "just want trains done on them" and Puerto Ricans were "disgusting".).
