MORAL DECAY / DO NO HARM
Together Creating a Better Future

A better future begins with each one of us.
If we want a better world, with better conditions for the whole of humanity, we must better ourselves and strive to DO NO HARM.

Our reality, good and bad, springs from each person’s beliefs and values that form our collective consciousness and existence. Look at the Coronavirus that has turned the world upside down. Scientists agree that if individuals, businesses, and governments don’t take significant action within the next decade to curb emissions, the damage will be catastrophic. Already, the effects on the natural world are massive and deadly, including infectious disease transmission patterns.

As a society, we each contribute to the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic.
We have learned that when we work together by staying home, we flatten the curve of the virus’s spread. When we selfishly go out into the public, dismissing government direction, we run the risk of harming others, and possibly ourselves. Whenever we put our personal needs, goals, and objectives above the Highest Good, we always pay the price.

Am I suggesting that our individual needs are meaningless? No.
Am I suggesting to be riddled with fear due to the pandemic? Not necessarily.
What I am asking is that we heed the warning.
We need to ask ourselves, “Are we suffering from moral decay?”
It is because of greed, self-serving destructive paradigms, and actions that the health of our planet is in peril. Unfortunately, we are all guilty of contributing to this destruction in varying degrees, by just turning a blind eye we add to the conditions.

This disregard goes beyond the treatment of the place we call our home; it filters into our daily interactions with those we engage with regularly.

Through the adverse choices we collectively make and the toxic beliefs many possess, we leave a footprint on the planet and each other.
Our choices need to stem from values that honor our home and life in general.

During this pandemic, we have seen thousands who visited the beaches during “shelter in place” because of boredom at home and “could not take it anymore.” Just yesterday, thousands of Orthodox Jewish mourners crowded a Brooklyn street Tuesday night, flouting the city’s social distancing rules to mourn a rabbi who died of Coronavirus.
In contrast, we also saw the essential workers, the goodness in humanity. This sect put their lives on the line every day. These people are heroes, the leaders most of us will never know.
They were, and are exposed to death daily, but because of their strength of character, selflessness, and dignity in their souls, they showed up to support society’s requirements and saved lives. They went into battle in the hospitals and worked with the dying; they served at the check out counter at Walmart, they picked up the germ-ridden garbage all out of a sense of duty. These people are the soldiers that helped us force the virus into retreat. They are the true warriors, and we can learn from them and their values. I fear that these fighters will be forgotten. That we will mindlessly dismiss their works as our memories wane.

Life will move on, but before it does and the pandemic is entirely behind us, I hope we each will reflect on what we gained from this experience. I hope when we reflect on this moment in time, we remember those front line workers and see them as an example of leadership, character, integrity, duty, and suffering for the higher good.
It is time to see this world, and it’s people through a new lens. I will submit that it is these nameless individual’s actions that provide a new vision of purpose for all of us.

This fresh direction will generate a healthy planet and equal humanity. The transition from vision to reality belongs to us.

It starts with our willingness to be of genuine service and to give from the heart, not through exploitation. When we approach life in this way when our objective is to “Do No Harm,” the world will be a much better place for everyone, and more importantly, for those who come after us.
