First, BEFORE the blasphemy ensues -- I want to be clear that I am not "anti-positive body image" - if that has been helpful for you, that's a wonderful thing. I have found that my clients who have eating disorders (and those who simply struggle from negative body image or low self-esteem) benefit more from focusing on all of the wonderful parts of them that are not tied to "what their body LOOKS like" vs. trying to love what their body looks like. They also heal the parts of them that overly tie their body image (or what they look like) to their self worth. When they do this, they are able to focus on the things they really care about, create things, and have better relationships bc their body image doesn't get in the way of a healthy sex or physical touch. They put themselves out there more, they take more risks, and they live life on their own terms vs. living life through a mirror (i.e. what do I look like TO the world?).

I've found through the experiences of my clients (bc admittedly many of my clients are attractive individuals) that even when they focus on how "attractive or hot they are" or how they love their body parts whether they are attractive to our current culture or not, they STILL miss the big picture and organize their lives around "looking hot" or feeling good about how they look on the outside and lose out on putting their energy into all the other things they are passionate about and their gifts to this world (and overly attach their feelings of self-worth to what they look like).

Ultimately, I hope your takeaway from this video (whether you have positive body image or not) is that you are SO MUCH MORE than what you look like (despite what our current culture/social media may emphasize).
