My take on the poll: It is a management issue. Example: in your situation, you know your kids will do what you ask, however they know mom will do it if she is around. You should take the fact that they do what you ask and set the chores for the week. In our house our 4 kids know that their toys, the internet they use for their shows/games, the food they eat, the electricity in the house, the hot water and the warm house they live in is all provided by mom and dad and that they contribute and do their part by doing their chores and if they dont want to complete their chores there will be consequences just as there would be if mom and dad decided to not pay the bills for a month. My oldest son decided he didnt want to put his laundry in the hamper so we decided he didnt have laundry to wash; once he ran out of clean clothes, guess who learned how to put their clothes in the hamper. People are too leanient with their kids, they need to learn consequences and we also need to provide structure for them to build on.
