Success, Motivation & Inspiration

  • Jason Holzer on the Success, Motivation & Inspiration podcast

29 FEB 2020 · Jason Holzer is a coach, & speaker. He's also the author of "Shattered By Suicide, Renewed by Resilience: How to Move Forward After Being Left Behind". After losing his dad to suicide, Jason says he had a choice to either play the victim and look to others to feel sorry for him or decide to fight for the good life he deserves! Jason now spends his life helping others to realize their potential & achieve happiness. First off, man… I'm so sorry for your loss. I can't even imagine. Below are some insights from Jason Holzer. Enjoy! Can you share one thing you loved or admired most about your dad? His work ethic… He always did things the right way. He was an electrician which meant he had to be very detailed oriented and focused on what he was doing at his job. How did your dad's decision to take his own life impact you, & those who loved him? It was devastating. He was such a good man to so many people. He was funny, caring, and involved. His loss not only hit me hard, it hit the community hard as well. What is your advice for someone who's down & thinking suicide may be the only way out? There are so many people who love you. Suicide only ends the chances of life getting better, and it will get better if we learn to stack good choices on top of each other. Things like daily exercises, eating healthier, picking the right group of friends, being thankful, setting goals that serve others etc… For our listeners who have lost someone due to suicide, what advice can you share with them? Continuous forgiveness is key. Every celebration is always a reminder that a loved one isn't there so they are all bittersweet. However, forgiveness allows you to let go of the pain and negative emotions and give you the opportunity to focus on being present and finding happiness. Your life will never be the same, but it doesn't have to define you. You still have the choice to make your life a little better every day. What made you decide to write your book & use this pain to help others? I felt there was a need in our society as I kept reading about suicide rates going up. I felt like if people knew what others went through went they lost someone to suicide, they would think twice about it. Also to help others who have gone through a similar circumstance to have someone that can relate to what they may be going through. If you could recommend one book for our audience, what would it be? • Ryan West on the Success, Motivation & Inspiration podcast

7 JAN 2020 · Ryan West hosts a podcast called Revealing Healing, where he brings on guests who have battled all kinds of health crisis and found ways to get through them. Ryan's podcast is a show dedicated to telling motivating health stories. The Revealing Healing show hosted by Ryan West who is a brain tumor survivor himself! I'm excited to have him on the show! Below are some insights from Ryan West. Enjoy! What is your personal definition of success? This one is short answer for me. My definition of success is when you get paid as a result of what your creativity created. Hands down the best feeling ever is to work on something from scratch and see others benefit from it. Can you share the steps you take daily to improve? I don't know if there is enough paper in the world to write down what I am trying to improve on. I'm going to answer this a little different by saying I try other things to help me improve on what I know I'm not good at. Here's an example, for all of 2019 I have been trying to learn how to play the guitar. The reason I pushed myself to do that was because I have always wanted to learn but also because I know that once I feel confident playing the guitar I will all the sudden be good at three things I use to suck at. Why? Because I believe that when we teach ourselves how to do something that is creative, are brains automatically help us out and solve those those three things we were having problems with. Creativity is free. Let me say that again, creativity is FREE and when you tap into it you can do wonders for self-improvement. What is your advice for someone making an important decision? If you have time, think it over and then think it over again. I don't think (no pun intended) that we allow ourselves enough time to think throughout the day. It is so undervalued how important that is. I watched the documentary about Warren Buffet last year and the one thing out of everything he said that stuck with me was how much he just thinks throughout the day. I thought maybe I was just some odd person (no comment) but when the richest person in the world suggests it I think I can get behind it. Some of the best ideas come from sitting in silence and thinking about what you could here or there. If time is limited like in so many cases, you make your best advised decision and don't look back. You are in the role because you got the job, be confident. Tell me about a specific moment that set you on the path you’re on now? I always know I wanted to be an entrepreneur but didn't know what made sense for me to push myself into. In October of 2018 I was at the doctor getting checked for something in my throat that didn't feel right. Ultimately it was coming from my stomach as a result of stress from my job. I think a lot of that stress was brought on by myself and so the doctor asked me if I had ever thought about anxiety medication. I'm on a lot of medication from my tumor and the disease I have (acromegaly) and didn't want anymore. Also, I didn't think I needed anxiety medication or that it was for me. Long story short, my doctor convinced me to try it and within a few weeks I noticed a huge difference in how I thought. Shortly after I jumped head in on starting a podcast, developing a fitness app and soon to be a community platform to bring adversity survivor's together. The best way I can explain how the anxiety medication helped and how it was a specific moment was that the my creativity was finally going the same speed as my drive to be successful. That's it. If you could recommend one book for our audience, what would it be? I would recommend "The Tattooist of Auschwitz". My whole entrepreneur spirit is built around turning adversity and misfortune into opportunity. You could make the argument that those who suffered through the concentration camps of WW2 ...

Enjoy! What is your personal definition of success? My definition of success is defined ultimately by how I feel. A feeling of accomplishment, confidence, peace and happiness. For me, this is made up of: * Running a successful and fulfilling business and helping my clients to breakthrough their current results and accomplish their goals * Challenging myself to accomplish new things and do things differently * Having great health and keeping fit; knowing I am looking after my body * Ensuring I make the most of my time and have travel and adventures * Having a great relationship with my husband, family and a close network of friends * Serving others Ultimately knowing I am living a life of meaning, joy and purpose. Can you share the steps you take daily to improve? Absolutely: Morning – this is my time. This is the most critical part of my day as it sets me up for the rest of the day. I exercise most mornings – in the summer we go to the ocean, swim and catch waves; sometimes I run there or do yoga and gym some evenings. Coffee at the beach with my husband or at home – healthy breakfast or coffee if intermittent fasting Then I go to my office – I read my daily quote, connect with my future vision and take a few minutes to plan my day I have a list of SET TASKS for my day that I do my best to complete daily and score out of 100% I make sure I stop during the day and re-calibrate. I either go outside and appreciate nature; tend the veggie garden or I sit in my chair and simply breathe for a few minutes to re-set. At the end of the day, I answer seven simple short questions – I have distilled these so there is NO excuse whatever happens. This helps me take a few minutes to recall my day and see what I did, could have done better and what I must do tomorrow. And each week I have a set of 10 questions I ask to review my week. This is what helps me keep focused and conscious and in charge of my business and life. And I read or listen to books on audible frequently. What is your advice for someone making an important decision? First, it’s helpful to know what this decision is part of – how will the decision impact your life and your goals? Spend a few minutes looking at the costs and benefits and if the options match your values and path. Sometimes asking other people's advice can be helpful, but ultimately, it’s up to you. Don’t overthink it – you will know if you are doing this if you get stuck and can’t decide. Stop and ask your heart. If your heart feels good, i.e if the energy expands, it probably means this is the decision. And remember you can always make another decision.

Bob is an advocate, supporter, and defender of the free enterprise system, believing that the amount of money one makes is directly proportional to how many people they serve. I'm excited to share our conversation with our listeners! Below are some insights from Bob Burg. Enjoy! What is your personal definition of success? Success can be defined and measured in different ways. It's also very contextual, and individual. It can be as simple as achieving a goal but it's certainly not limited to that basic context. My overall definition of success is an ongoing and genuine feeling of happiness and peace of mind based on having done's one best in living up to their potential. I always enjoyed Earl Nightingale's definition of success from his Lead the Field album, "Success is the progressive realization of a worthy ideal." And there are many other definitions I also enjoy. Can you share the steps you take daily to improve? I read voraciously. I watch videos and listen to audios, I observe and listen to people and I'm constantly checking my premises, understanding that I don't know nearly what I think I know. Because of that, I'm hopefully able to keep my mind open. I think listening, engaging with people and not being attached to being right or knowing the answers is important. Questioning premises and asking ourselves, "Why do I think that?", "Why do I believe that?", or "What could I do differently?" is important. I'm constantly studying, learning, and hopefully growing! What is your advice for someone making an important decision? I think it goes back to learning how to make decisions, and not waiting until the last minute to decide that "now I need to know how to make a decision". There's a wonderful book written by a woman named Annie Duke. Annie is a world champion professional poker player. I'm not a poker player and it's not necessary to be in order to benefit from her book called, "Thinking in Bets". What it was really about is how to make the best decisions when you don't have all the facts! We may have a preponderance of facts and a preponderance of evidence but we generally don't have all the facts. What she talks about is learning how to think in such a way that we give ourselves the best odds of making the best decision. While the best decision doesn't necessarily guarantee the best outcome, obviously the better the decision the better the odds of that best outcome occurring. The most important thing is determining how you're going to make decisions before those important decisions come up! Tell me about a specific moment that set you on the path you’re on now? I grew up with great parents, fortunately. Wonderful people who tried to make the world better for others! My dad was probably the best I've ever known when it came to people skills. His people skills were really based on truly caring about the other person and making people feel genuinely good about themselves. In terms of sales, it was understanding and learning that the sale is never about the salesperson.

Having a personal growth and development system as part of your DMO is critical to success. Spending every spare moment learning, listening to podcasts, reading books, investing in mentors/coaches/programs to stay focused and keep reaching for the next best level of yourself so you can show up that way for your team and clients. What is your advice for someone making an important decision? Go all in. You’re not in this to give it a go. Burn all bridges behind you leaving yourself no way of retreat. Don’t question your decision, know you’re on the right path and your success is inevitable. You’ve been called here for a reason. Tell me about a specific moment that set you on the path you’re on now? Four years ago we hit a financial crisis we hadn’t planned for and we lost everything overnight. The loss was staggering, and going back to work from being a stay at home mom, a traditional 9-5 wasn’t going to cut it. My options were bleak with no recent resume and limited resources. Going self-made was the only way forward and it was either sink or swim. If you could recommend one book for our audience, what would it be? How do you push through tough times? I don’t have a choice. My why is flipping huge. We are only here once and I want to never again be the mom that has to say no we can’t afford it to my daughter. And I want to give others light that there is a way out for them too. What inspires you? Travel, books, friends, podcasts about manifestation, yoga, and all things Law of attraction. How do you manage and prioritize opportunities? Go with your gut, intuition is never wrong. Opportunities are all around us, you’ll know the ones to say yes to when you keep an open mind. • Likky Lavji on the Success, Motivation & Inspiration podcast

24 OCT 2019 · Likky Lavji, is known as "The Blind Spot Navigator" and he's a renowned keynote speaker. Likky helps people and organizations discover their blind spots to power performance. With over 25 years of entrepreneurial experience, Likky Lavji has been acknowledged by leading organizations, including Lenovo Canada, Ingram Micro, Royal Bank of Canada for his ability to redefine networking and his innovative approach to conducting business, giving value to others and showing people the tools to overcome barriers. Below are some insights from Likky Lavji. Enjoy! What is your personal definition of success? * Success is a myriad of things that come into play: Having real personal self-awareness of how your actions and behaviors affect others and how it affects your performance. In other words, having awareness of your BS, or as I like to call it, your blind spots * Having a real sense of your core values and beliefs and staying true to them. If you are a leader in an organization the core values and beliefs should be the guiding beacon to everything the organization does. And it is so important that the whole of the organization is aligned with those core values, its what keeps the company focused and moving forward. * Having the ability to empower and impact people's lives by giving value. Every individual by design of nature, whether it be your customers, your employees, your co-workers, they each have a desire to feel valued and connected. When you can serve others by offering empathy, appreciation, consistency, & excellence, you build human connection and trust. These are the fundamental principles that build your individual uniqueness and unifies organizations. It also builds trust with your customers to a point where they no longer see you as a means to an end but as someone who creates an impact beyond a transaction. Can you share the steps you take daily to improve? Every morning I align my thoughts and do self-check-in. I ask my self what are the 2-3 small success I can do to impact others and provide value. I also do a check-in throughout the day asking myself what Is my purpose for today, am I staying on course to my values and beliefs? For example before having a call with a client, or conference organizers I ask myself who are the people I am going to serve and what are their struggles and wants? What are the things I know I do really well that can best serve them? I am always trying to improve on my listening skills of when others are communicating to me, its the mindfulness of bringing your mind to be clear of any background thoughts and being fully present and trying to build a connection with others. What is your advice for someone making an important decision? 1. You must know your passion and purpose. Ask yourself these questions: The decision I am making it today, is it going to be meaningful? Will it give me fulfillment or momentary happiness. You see, fulfillment hits your inner core. It’s the thing that tells you your actions have impacted you in a way that brings outcomes to serve others. Studies have shown we are the happiest when we serve others. People function better from the gratification of serving others. My heritage is Indian and if you were to ask an Indian what is the true purpose of your life? He will likely say "seva" which is the Indian term for serving others. 2. Always look at your core values and beliefs. Ask your self the decision I am making does it align with my core values and beliefs? If it doesn’t and you still make that decision, somewhere down the line the misalignment from your decision and your core values and beliefs will show up. Whether it be lack of motivation, not feeling fulfilled, dreading the choice you made, etc. Tell me about a specific moment that set you on the path you’re on now?
